The International Trombone Association‘s Journal had a write-up from the International Trombone Festival which took place at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, in June.
“International touring artist Carol Jarvis performed a phenomenal recital featuring more contemporary styles than are sometimes heard at ITFs. “I play from the heart,” Jarvis declared as she wowed the audience with her stylistic versatility and beautiful melodic playing. A vocalist, keyboardist, and arranger as well, Jarvis showed off many of her own gorgeous arrangements of modern standards and originals with string quartet. “I like her playing because she takes ideas from pop and rock and creates a bridge between them and other styles,” stated Thomas McHugh of New York, NY. Jarvis’ recital was a breath of fresh air at the Festival, and helped to remind trombonists young and old that the instrument has a rightful place in the contemporary music scene.”
