Cocentaina Course

July 16, 2008

I was thrilled to be invited back to teach on the Cocentaina course in Spain this summer. It was a 5-day long course for trombones and trumpets.

All the staff were very busy every day giving one-to-one lessons, some coaching, running warm-ups and then ensembles in the evenings. I also gave a jazz masterclass introducing jazz for beginners to all participants which seemed to be well received.

Javier Colomer (the director of the course) has also invited me to give my jazz masterclass and be a professor on the ‘Low Brass’ course in Peru, South America, next April 2009.

I really enjoyed the course in Cocentaina. A shame more British players don’t attend, considering the amazing price, but I always learn so much from spending time with Ben van Dijk and many others. Thank you to Javi, all the staff and students for making the course such fun.

The tutors – L-R: Ben van Dijk, Javier Colomer, Jaume Gavilan, me, J̈orgen van Rijen, Frank Pulcini, Luis Conzales, Maido Navajas and Salvador Palmer.
