Trinity College of Music, where I teach trombone, have an Erasmus scheme which allows students to spend a year of their course at a similar conservatoire somewhere abroad.
The Erasmus scheme also allows instrument professors to teach abroad. So, at the start of June I spent a few days at the Music Conservatoire in Cosenza, Italy, giving solo masterclasses, chamber music coaching and classes on jazz performance. Lino Lappano (trombone professor at Cosenza Conservatoire, pictured far right) will then visit Trinity College of Music in the near future.
I enjoyed my time in Cosenza very much indeed. The conservatoire is set in an old convent which is beautiful. The students were all very keen, polite and responsive, and I was made to feel very welcome indeed.
Thanks so much to Lino for making my stay so enjoyable, and for TCM and the Conservatorio di Musica in Cosenza for making it all happen.
