As a previous winner of the prestigious Royal Over-Seas League Ensemble Competition, I was extremely pleased to be asked back to be part of the panel for the 2013 Competition. The rest of the panel consisted of Les Neish, Stuart King and Chris De Souza.
There were over 30 ensembles to hear on the first day at Royal Over-Seas House in London, which was surprisingly exhausting. The standard throughout was astounding, however, so a real joy to be a part of. Our decision-making seemed even more difficult in the second round, but the final on 12th March we (along with an audience) heard 6 ensembles and the winners who walked away with a huge £10,000 prize were the Tempest Flute Trio who displayed stunning talent and musicianship across all their repertoire.
Congratulations to all ensembles who took part – I enjoyed every single performance. Thanks to Roderick Lakin and all at the ROSL Arts. An experience I will cherish.
