Trinity Laban Trombones

April 16, 2013

As a trombone professor at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music in London, it is extremely enjoyable to get the whole trombone department together for a concert every now and then.

OldRoyalNavalCollegeChapel

Graham Lee (another trombone professor at Trinity and ex-RPO Principal Trombonist) began rehearsals with the trombone department throughout the Autumn and Winter terms, while I have been part-time at Trinity. This past term we have been coordinating times, rehearsals and a concert date, and with recent intensive rehearsals we put on a wonderful lunchtime recital at the beautiful Old Royal Naval College Chapel in Greenwich, London.

Repertoire included ‘Elsa’s Procession’ by Wagner, Jeremy Dibb’s ‘Provence’, the Theme tune to ‘Titanic’, ‘6.35’ by Steven Verhelst and the World Premiere of my composition ‘Hope’ which you can purchase here.

The Chapel has a lively acoustic, so the quieter pieces rang beautifully around the room and the louder pieces came across very dramatically.

That evening we rounded-off all our hard work with another trombone department gig, this time at The Yacht pub in Greenwich, where we were joined by rhythm section and performed lots of classic hits from the 1980s!
