The Isle of Lewis was my destination in April 2008 to play in the Kaleidoscope Festival. Myself and fellow trombonist Phil Goodwin took two planes to get to the island where we were made to feel very at home.
We joined in with the local Concert Band, Big Band, coached in the Nicolson Institute and gave some school demonstrations along with individual solo playing every evening. Concerts at the An Lanntair Arts Centre, the Town Hall and local Hotel were all a tremendous success and we even had an afternoon seeing the sights including Callanish (see photo) which was built in 3000 BC (1500 years before Stone Henge!)
The Isle of Lewis is a gorgeous place and certainly somewhere I will visit again. Big thanks to Gavin Woods, his wife Debbie, Bob Duncan and many others for making this Festival happen. It was a wonderful trip from start to finish and I hope to see them all again soon.
