Life after Transplants

July 11, 2013

Last year I was asked if I would mind being interviewed to feature in a short film about ‘Life after Transplants’. The series of short films, ‘Living with and beyond cancer’, have just premiered this week. …cont….

The three films are below and I feature in the second one. This particular film also features a lovely young lad, Josh, who has had all sorts of different issues since his transplant than I have, and it’s a real eye-opener, even for me, about how different people’s journeys are, post-transplant.

These films have been added to The Christie website to help people understand and deal with the long term effects of having cancer. From the effects of treatments on the body, to the long term psychological effects, there are lots of inspirational and moving stories here. Knowing you are not alone is a huge help when you get diagnosed and I wish this service had been around when I was diagnosed, as cancer is a very big part of our lives.

Going in for a transplant, or when you’re diagnosed with cancer, it is a daunting prospect and the future is unknown, so being able to hear from patients who have gone through it, is a much-needed mental boost for all those dealing with it. Ben Heyworth and Into Productions have done a really stunning job putting this project together and through being involved, I have now gained lots of new friends (the people who feature in all the films!). To learn more, read patient testimonials and download information click here for the website. I truly hope this new resource will get the exposure it deserves to go on to help future patients, carers and their friends and family as I believe it is an invaluable service.
